  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 500g ground beef
  • 500g ground pork
  • 800g canned tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 500g ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

  • Make the Meat Sauce: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, carrots, and celery. Cook until softened.
  • Add ground beef and pork to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned.
  • Stir in canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, and beef stock. Add the bay leaf. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Layer the Lasagna: In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by lasagna noodles, ricotta cheese, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Repeat the layers.
  • Finish with a final layer of meat sauce and a generous topping of cheese.
  • Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  • Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, let the meat sauce simmer longer.
  • You can use gluten-free lasagna noodles if needed.
