Savor the deliciousness of Grilled Cheese Patty Melts with juicy beef patties, melted cheese, and caramelized onions, sandwiched between crispy, toasted bread slices. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal that combines the best of burgers and grilled cheese

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 8 slices of bread (sourdough or rye recommended)
  • 8 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter (for cooking onions)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for grilling)
  • Optional: pickles, mustard, or any favorite toppings

Instructions

  • Prepare Patties: Season ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Form into 4 thin patties.
  • Cook Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side or until cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  • Caramelize Onions: In the same skillet, melt 2 tbsp of butter. Add sliced onions and cook on low-medium heat until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Assemble Sandwiches: Butter one side of each bread slice. Place butter-side down on a plate, then add a slice of cheese, a cooked patty, caramelized onions, another slice of cheese, and top with another buttered bread slice, butter-side up.
  • Grill Sandwiches: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Grill each sandwich for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use any cheese you like; Swiss or provolone can add a unique flavor twist.
  • Customize with toppings like pickles, tomatoes, or spicy mustard for extra flavor.
  • Ensure the skillet isn’t too hot, so the cheese melts without burning the bread.
