  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce (or oyster sauce)
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil (divided)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey (optional)
  • 1/4 cup broth (beef or chicken)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional)
  • Red pepper flakes or sriracha (optional)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Green onions, sliced, for garnish
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers, chili paste, fish sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tbsp sesame oil in a large pan. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  2. Add diced onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in broccoli florets and cook until they start to soften.
  4. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, broth, and brown sugar.
  5. Pour the sauce into the pan, stirring to combine. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  6. If using cornstarch, mix it with 2 tbsp water and add to the pan to thicken the sauce.
  7. For added spice, stir in red pepper flakes or sriracha.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.
