Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Lasagna:
    • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 or leaner)
    • 1 small onion (diced)
    • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
    • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • Salt and pepper (to taste)
    • 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
    • 2 cups beef broth (or water)
    • 1½ cups uncooked lasagna noodles (broken into smaller pieces)
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • ½ cup ricotta cheese (optional, for creaminess)
    • ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for sautéing)
    • Fresh basil or parsley (for garnish)
  • For Extra Flavor (Optional):
    • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (for a spicy kick)
    • ½ cup cottage cheese (instead of ricotta)
    • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (for extra cheesiness)
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste (for richer tomato flavor)

Instructions

  • Cook Beef and Onions: In a large skillet or pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and ground beef, cooking until the beef is browned and onions are soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Add Garlic and Seasonings: Stir in minced garlic, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add Marinara and Broth: Pour in marinara sauce and beef broth (or water). Stir to combine.
  • Cook Noodles: Add broken lasagna noodles to the skillet and mix well. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until noodles are tender.
  • Add Cheeses: Once noodles are cooked, stir in mozzarella, ricotta (if using), and Parmesan cheese. Cook until cheeses are melted and the mixture is creamy.
  • Optional Additions: For more flavor, add red pepper flakes, tomato paste, cottage cheese, or cheddar cheese during the cooking process.
  • Garnish and Serve: Top with fresh basil or parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, add tomato paste or extra cheese.
  • Substitute cottage cheese for ricotta if desired.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes based on heat preference.
