Ingredients

For the Beef Patties:

  • Ground Beef (80/20 blend): 1.5 pounds (680g)
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Black Pepper: ½ teaspoon
  • Garlic Powder: ½ teaspoon
  • Onion Powder: ½ teaspoon
  • Worcestershire Sauce: 1 tablespoon

For the Whiskey Glaze:

  • Whiskey: ¼ cup
  • Brown Sugar: 2 tablespoons
  • Dijon Mustard: 1 tablespoon
  • Soy Sauce: 1 tablespoon
  • Ketchup: 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic: 1 clove, minced
  • Smoked Paprika: ½ teaspoon

For Assembly:

  • Brioche Buns: 4
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese: 4 slices
  • Crispy Bacon Strips (optional): 8 strips
  • Caramelized Onions: 1 large onion, caramelized
  • Lettuce: 4 leaves
  • Tomato Slices: 4 slices
  • Pickles: 4-8 slices
  • Mayonnaise or Aioli: As needed

Instructions

  • Prepare the Patties:
    • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until just combined. Form into 4 equal patties, making a small indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.
  • Make the Whiskey Glaze:
    • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine whiskey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, soy sauce, ketchup, minced garlic, and smoked paprika. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens. Set aside.
  • Sear the Patties:
    • Heat a large skillet or grill over high heat. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, until they develop a deep brown crust. In the last minute of cooking, brush the patties with the whiskey glaze and top with cheddar cheese to melt.
  • Assemble the Burgers:
    • Toast the brioche buns lightly. Spread mayonnaise or aioli on the bottom buns. Layer with lettuce, a glazed beef patty topped with melted cheese, crispy bacon strips (if using), caramelized onions, tomato slices, and pickles. Top with the remaining bun halves.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the burgers immediately, paired with your favorite sides like fries or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add jalapeño slices to the burger.
  • The whiskey glaze can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
